Welcome to Liam's room!
He's about to turn 4, and so we spent this year re-designing his "big boy" room.
So quickly I'll show you how it looked the day we moved into this house 8 months ago (nothing was placed really purposefully, just tossed in his room from our old place)
And how it looks today
The main feature is obviously the book wall, which we all love. We were inspired by these blogs here and here to create the book display shelves; books can be even more beautiful when displayed than framed artwork! We were going to go with the Ikea Ribba shelves like everyone seems to to display their books, but they weren't quite the right length and we didn't want seams between the shelves, so we just built our own using this tutorial as our jumping off point!
On the opposite side of the room you find his newly painted green dresser and the whale art from society6 that Liam is obsessed with (it also comes in stretched canvas as an option instead of the print that we chose).
The paint colour we picked for the dresser is called Caper Berry from the Martha Stewart collection at Home Depot, and I find it so interesting how it looks so different depending on the light!
We've had this dresser since he was a baby, and used to use it as a change table. It's been stripped and painted a few times over the years, so while I have no real professional before & after pictures, I did find this (terrible quality) still from an old video of how it looked when we bought it 4 years ago from a thrift store in all it's orange stain glory:
On top of the dresser there are some yellow accents. First is a thrifted tow truck that holds some books for when Liam's a bit older (ones that everyone read at some point in their childhood like The Velveteen Rabbit, and ones that hold a more sentimental value like Where the Side Walk Ends.)
There's also two plant containers found at Home Sense with plants that Liam picked out from the "low light" section at our local nursery, since his room gets minimal direct sunlight (their tags read Palms and Nephytis if you're interested).

Speaking of Liam, he was following me around while I took pictures of
his room, when he suddenly ran away and reappeared with our point &
shoot camera and started copying me taking photos of his room. It was
hilarious and adorable all at once, plus he got some great shots, so here's the space from his perspective:
